Fadaki (The Block Printing Business of Bhavsar Kshatriya Community)
Block Printing was one of the most popular and successful business in the mid of 19th century. Tribal people were the main customers for these products. Over the time tribal people got many other options of textile products. These new textile products had many types and qualities. So it was the main reason for diversification of customers towards other textile products. The block printing artists were unable to design and make new product to attract the new customers. It was the starting of extinction of this business. Due to less customer demand and profit in the block printing business, many artists were diversified either towards other business or jobs.
After doing market research, we came to know about Christmas decorative lace. INDIAN suppliers provide many varieties of decorative lace to Europe, UK, and USA. They develop many new lace designs every year. As per their market research, customers prefer eco-friendly decorative lace. This information attracted our concentration towards combination of block printing and decorative lace. We designed few decorative lace as per specification and took trails by making wooden die.
Final prototypes of lace are in sampling process. It is helping us to know about customer’s feedback and suggestions for more products development.
Final Prototype
The success of this product will help to save one of the best INDIAN ethnic eco-friendly product and business. This will provide jobs to artists; it will also help to contribute in export of products from INDIA.
We are still working on design and development of other new products related with block printing process.
